Painting with light.

I intend to produce a set of night landscape photographs using a technique known as 'light painting.' The light painting effect is achieved by running a long exposure whilst literally painting the subject area with light. This technique has been experimented with by a lot of photographers and even artists over the years from Picasso to Man Ray.

My aim is to source scenes and subjects that during the daylight would appear to be usual every day images but using this technique, capturing them in a more interesting, unusual and dramatic way. I am also interested in capturing an image over a period of time rather than the precise moment that a normal photograph creates.

I will experiment with different light sources to paint my chosen subjects. I will use different torches, led's, lasers and coloured acetates to create different effects on the subjects.

I will also experiment with HDR (high dynamic range) during the post production process to see if this can add any more detail to my images.

Even though each shoot will take considerably longer than a typical photo shoot due to the nature of the technique, I still hope to create at least a set of six final images.
